Containers are the commonly used, standardized transport boxes used to ship around 60% of all the world’s transported goods. Thanks to their unified sizes (20’ to 45’), heights and specifications (e.g. open top, tank and reefer) they enable a very efficient flow of goods. Intermodal terminals are inland terminals that are trans-shipment hubs for inland container traffic. As such they are generally located at “nodes” of geographical connection between roads, railways and rivers.
