In early 2024, the Irish Defence Forces ordered a Konecranes E-VER electric forklift for handling containers and general cargo at its primary Logistics Hub located in the Curragh Camp main training center, Co Kildare. The forklift will be ready for delivery in Q3 2024.
Following a competitive tender by the Irish Defence Forces, Konecranes' E-VER electric forklift was identified as the most durable, high-performing lift truck, capable of moving equipment and supplies quickly and safely whilst generating zero emissions.
“The purchase of this fully electric machine is in line with Irish Defence Forces' stated intent to seek out clean and innovative transport solutions, and is a clear demonstration of our eco-efficient procurement initiatives,” says Col Brendan Norton, Director of Transport for the Irish Defence Forces.
“This order proves that the E-VER’s rugged strength and reliability will offer the versatility needed for a wide range of applications – and all on electric power. With service and support from local distributor Henley Forklift Group, we’re proud to provide our technology and expertise to the Irish Defence Forces,” says Anton Nilsson, Area Sales Manager, Lift Trucks, Konecranes.
“We are pleased to announce yet another order for a defence and peacekeeping organization, which shows the sector’s strong interest in our innovative and reliable machines,” says Patrik Lundbäck, Vice President Sales and Distribution, Lift Trucks, Konecranes.
The order is for one Konecranes E-VER 16-1200C forklift with a fully-electric driveline and a capacity of 16 tons. A lithium-ion battery pack offers high energy efficiency and fast charging. With no heat, no oil and few moving parts, the electric forklift requires less maintenance and produces less chemical waste. Optimized weight distribution ensures smooth operation, easy maneuverability and faster acceleration. Plentiful sensors for rapid diagnostics and reliable functioning allow the driver to focus on moving every load safely and efficiently from an ergonomic cabin built for comfort, intuitive control and clear, unobstructed visibility in all directions. With zero tailpipe emissions, the forklift has the flexibility for both indoor and outdoor applications. The truck will be delivered in standard military matt olive green.
This order is part of Ecolifting™, Konecranes’ vision to increase its handprint – meaning the beneficial environmental impact that can be achieved with our product and service portfolio – while reducing customers’ carbon footprints. From eco-optimizing diesel drives, to hybridization and fully-electrified fleets, we will continue to do more with less.
A strong focus on customers and commitment to business growth and continuous improvement make Konecranes a material handling industry leader. This is underpinned by investments in digitalization and technology, plus our work to make material flows more efficient with solutions that decarbonize the economy and advance circularity and safety.
