Konecranes receives global cybersecurity certification for secure product development process

Trade press releases

Konecranes has achieved the internationally recognized IEC 62443-4-1 cybersecurity certification for Port Solutions and Industrial Equipment products offered to container handling, shipyards, process industries and general manufacturing customers.

The IEC 62443 is a series of standards addressing cybersecurity for operational technology in automation and control systems. The certification reflects Konecranes’ role as a forerunner in the industry for secure product development processes.

The milestone builds upon Konecranes’ strong commitment in delivering safe and secure material handling solutions to its customers, following the earlier achievement of ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for information security.

Furthermore, the certification aligns with Konecranes’ commitment to comply with both existing and forthcoming cybersecurity regulations, such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act, which sets forth new mandatory security requirements for companies providing products with digital elements to EU markets.

“With automation and the remote operation of cranes, product quality requirements have changed. It is essential to understand the associated security requirements to mitigate, for instance, safety issues, operational downtime or data breaches. The security requirements must be adhered to not only by Konecranes, but also by our suppliers,” says Marko Talala, Director, Material Flow Solutions, Industrial Equipment.

“Cybersecurity has become one of the most important factors for critical infrastructure customers when purchasing new products and services. It’s critical that security is integrated to our product development processes from the beginning and becomes a part of our digital DNA, similar to how safety has been for a long time,” says Hannu Oja, Vice President, Technology, Port Solutions.

Konecranes’ secure product development process was audited by TÜV SÜD, an independent expert in assurance and risk management.
