KCI Konecranes breaks into RTG market in Japan

Corporate press releases

APM Terminals has signed a deal with KCI Konecranes for four RTGs (Rubber Tired Gantry cranes) for their Yokohama container terminal in Japan. This is the first order for a port terminal in Japan, an important breakthrough for KCI Konecranes. The cranes are due for delivery in August 2006. The order was received in the fourth quarter of 2005.

APM Terminals is the third largest container terminal operator in the world, with interest in more than 35 ports worldwide. The Yokohama container terminal is located 25 km southwest of Tokyo, and is considered the newest and most modern terminal in Japan. The new high speed RTGs are compatible with the high productivity standards set for the terminal’s container handling equipment.

“This is a very important step for us in further promoting the latest generation of RTGs on the international arena”, says Tuomas Saastamoinen, Sales Manager, Container Handling. “Japan is a sophisticated and technologically advanced market, so we are delighted that our RTGs continue to gain a competitive foothold around the world”.

With the highest productivity and the lowest maintenance costs, lowest fuel consumption, lowest pollutant emissions and downtime in the industry, the Konecranes RTG has established itself globally as the state-of-the-art of its kind. The new 16-wheel all-electric RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50 tons and are capable of stacking containers one-over-five high and six plus truck lane wide. Handling efficiency is achieved by high hoist, trolley traverse and gantry speeds. They are fully equipped with all modern features including Sway Prevention and Horizontal Fine Positioning Systems.
