The path is clear, from diesel to hybrid to electric operations

Konecranes works for a decarbonized and circular world for customers and society. We are helping to build the means to get there for our customers, step by step. At Konecranes, we call this Ecolifting, a systematic movement towards lower CO2 per container move. Our first major step in this direction was the introduction of our all-electric Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) over ten years ago. All Konecranes factories use renewable electricity, and we already cut half the emissions from our operations in 2022 since 2019. We are also committed to halving our value chain emissions by 2030.

We invite you to join us on this journey. Your carbon footprint is as significant as our own, and it can be smaller. We work hard to help our customers reduce their carbon footprints, wherever they are. There is a difference between seeing the path ahead and walking on that path. Let’s do it together.

Know your product’s footprint

We use the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to describe the environmental aspects of our products. The EPD is a standardized way of quantifying a product’s environmental impact through a summary of the relevant eco-efficient features. To increase transparency, we use a third- party service provider to conduct a critical review of our claims and data. Read more about EPDs on our Sustainability web pages here. See which products already have it and how to get access to them.

Start your operations with advanced RTGs.

Konecranes helps customers grow into a low carbon future by providing solutions that strengthen decarbonization and advance electrification. We design our products with their complete lifecycle in mind, analyzing each phase for total carbon footprint.

For example, delivering RTGs starts with phase 1, which represents around 1/10 of the total CO2 load. Konecranes has worked to reduce the CO2 footprint of manufacturing, materials, transportation, and commissioning.

The usage of the equipment represents the main part of the carbon footprint – around 9/10. Konecranes provides many ways to reduce this with Ecolifting power options. In the end-of-life phase, the RTG steel structure can be fully recycled, representing less than 1/10 of the total carbon footprint.

How we at Konecranes commit to environmental sustainability

We support our customers in reaching their low-carbon targets with our solutions:

  • Accelerating circularity at all levels of operations
  • Setting and reaching science-based targets for value chain emissions

We work to decarbonize our own operations:

  • Reaching emission targets for own operations
  • Powering our factories with 100% renewable electricity
