Used mobile harbor cranes offer outstanding value for money

BMF Port Burgas EAD (BMF) has operated Port Terminal Burgas West since 2013. To help increase productivity in this multi-purpose terminal, BMF has successively added three used Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Cranes to its existing machinery.

In Burgas on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, BMF handles containers, general cargo and bulk materials, including grain. It started operations with two used Konecranes Gottwald Model 6 Mobile Harbor Cranes featuring a maximum lifting capacity of 100 t, a 50-t motor grab curve and a radius up to 51 m. With the help of these cranes, handling rates quickly increased from 1.4 million t in 2013 to 2.3 million t in 2016. This positive development has resulted in a further urgent need for quayside handling equipment.

Model 6 cranes paved the way

Based on BMF’s positive experience with its Model 6 cranes, the terminal operator opted for another used mobile harbor crane from Konecranes. The third crane, a Konecranes Gottwald Model 3 crane, offers a maximum lifting capacity of 100 t, a 34-t motor-grab curve and a radius up to 46 m.

The Model 3 crane for BMF went into operation at its first owner’s premises in Belgium in 2013. Having only completed some 12,000 working hours, the very robust crane still has a long service life to offer BMF.

Lower total cost of ownership

As regards cost-effectiveness, the Model 3 mobile harbor crane features an eco-efficient hybrid drive based on diesel-generator set and short-term energy media. Energy recovered from braking and lowering motions is stored in ultracaps and made available for the next work cycle. This reduces fuel consumption and contributes to lower total cost of ownership.
