Premium service for premium automotive production

Konecranes Service offers a comprehensive service package for thousands of cranes, hoists, lifting platforms and load handling equipment for a German premium automobile manufacturer.

Growing asset fleet

As diverse as the end products at the four plants are, so diverse are the cranes, hoists and load handling equipment like the trusses that transport the pressing tools weighing several tons. Many process cranes and hoists in the plants come from Konecranes as well as from other manufacturers. It is common to see that the plant fleet has grown with the operation. The original equipment is replaced over time and expanded depending on the production requirements and many factors must be taken into account during daily maintenance or modernization.

Starting situation

Having each system and every part maintained by the respective manufacturer would be too complex and costly. That is why Mercedes-Benz AG was looking for a partner who could offer the complete process from conception to integrated implementation from a single source. This requires a great deal of experience and broad know-how across all trades—as well as a thoroughly thought-out concept. Efficient spare parts management and smooth, planned and preventive maintenance of the systems are among the requirements that must be met.

Concept

Not only the quality, but also the speed of troubleshooting is crucial in the automotive industry—because every minute counts. That is why we have developed an integrated solution for use in Stuttgart, Sindelfingen, Bremen and Hamburg. In the future, more than 50 experts from Konecranes Service will work exclusively for Mercedes-Benz.

In each plant, they will also have their own on-site workshops. This allows them to react extremely quickly to any issues. For the crane systems with the highest priority, a response time of 15 minutes has been agreed—this is how quickly a technician must start troubleshooting from the first report. The repair must then be initiated in 45 minutes. Our high safety requirements are observed in the execution of the work and in particular the elimination of faults.

Solution

Long-term maintenance work is planned in advance in close cooperation with all parties involved at the site in such a way that the operation is influenced as little as possible—crane systems are worked on when they are not needed, for example. This type of coordination works best when the distances are short, everything comes from a single source and the customer has a fixed contact person.
