Konecranes’ biggest widespan ship-to-shore crane to be delivered to Helsinki Terminal

Multi-Link Terminals Ltd Oy (MLT), a long-standing customer of Konecranes, has ordered a large ship-to-shore (STS) crane for their Vuosaari terminal in the Port of Helsinki. The crane will be delivered in 2019.

MLT, operating in the Port of Helsinki, Vuosaari, has ordered a Konecranes STS with a railspan of 48m, a lifting height of 31m, an outreach of 40m and a backreach of 20m. These dimensions make it the biggest widespan STS crane ever manufactured by Konecranes.

This order will help enable MLT to prepare to receive larger vessels, including the fleet of LNG-powered container ships that Containerships Plc will begin to use on their intra Baltic routes in 2018.

Equipped with a single-lift spreader and state-of-the-art features such as ship profiling, container positioning and TRUCONNECT® remote monitoring, the crane will be operated in a manner that will help maximize MLT’s space in its Vuosaari terminal. The STS will place, pick and stack containers within its legs and simultaneously feed containers out into the container yard and trucks from its backreach.

“Multi-Link Terminals has been our customer for a long time. The new container ships will be coming to their Vuosaari terminal soon, and this STS crane will handle them efficiently,” says Ville Hoppu, Sales Manager, Konecranes Port Cranes.
