How do we select raw materials for our lifting equipment?

We strive to minimize the environmental impact of our products at Konecranes. We are committed to environmental responsibility and always strive to minimize the impact of our operations and products.

How do we take this into account when selecting and using raw materials?

Crane’s lifecycle phase: Raw materials

Raw material extraction and processing can lead to water shortage, loss of biodiversity, and global warming. We select repairable and recyclable materials and design our equipment to enable easy reuse and recycling, which means less raw material extraction and processing. The amount of essential material, especially steel, is optimized, to further reduce the overall environmental impact. We also have a process to monitor and control restricted substances in our products.

One example of material optimization is Konecranes S-series hoist which is 20 percent lighter than the previous hoist generation. Furthermore, 94 percent of the hoist materials are fully recyclable metals.
