Intelligent and complete lifting solutions for the nuclear power industry, and power and energy from waste industries

Corporate press releases

Konecranes, one of the world’s market leaders in productivity-enhancing lifting solutions as well as services for lifting equipment and machine tools, presents its comprehensive product range for the first time at PowerGen 2011, hall 4, stand 4 E 29. The company, based in Finland, provides intelligent “Smarter Lifting Solutions” for the nuclear power industry, and power and energy from waste industries. In doing so it increases the efficiency and profitability of companies in the long-term.

“We specialize in innovative lifting technology solutions for the nuclear power industry, and power and energy from waste industries. At PowerGen we will present our productivity-enhancing solutions for these specific industries. Additionally, we will demonstrate the extensive associated range of services we offer for such solutions”, says Maurizio Tansini, Konecranes’ Operations Manager for Italy.

In Milan, Konecranes can be found at its 36 square meter stand 4 E 29 in hall 4, where we will concentrate our activities during PowerGen.

Nuclear power: There is no substitute for experience

Konecranes has been dedicated to improving the efficiency and performance of the nuclear power business. Konecranes continues to focus heavily on developing new technology to improve safety, reliability and expand capability. In the nuclear power business alone Konecranes has developed 12 new patented products and processes in the last 3 years.

In addition to ISO-9001 quality certification, Konecranes’ nuclear safety related quality control program meets the most stringent nuclear quality requirements, including 10CFR50, Appendix B. The company is a member of such regulatory and advisory groups as the ASME NOG-1 committee, which sets standards for the design of the lifting equipment that is used at nuclear facilities.

Power: Serving the special needs of the industry

Konecranes has a long experience of delivering reliable cranes for major energy companies. The company serves the special needs of the power industry by providing material handling solutions for every type of power plant – from industrial cranes for workshops to explosion-proof cranes for hazardous environments.

Konecranes has a wide range of products from light chain hoists to heavy service cranes for turbine halls. New hydro-power plants as well as thermal power plants are being built all over the world, with Asia having the fastest growth.

Wind power has rapidly become a global business. Today there are installations in around 80 countries. The fastest growing market is in China, even though Europe is still strongly increasing its wind power capacity. Konecranes has especially designed products not only for the wind manufacturing process, but also for the purpose of providing easy service and maintenance over the course of a windmill’s lifecycle.

Energy from waste: Keeping the process running

Energy from waste is becoming an increasingly significant industry in which maximum efficiency is needed throughout the whole process, which means cranes play an important role in keeping the process running.

Konecranes has 50 years of experience in meeting the demands of waste to energy (WTE) plants. Some of the most challenging locations across the world for heavy duty crane applications exist in the renewable energy industry.

Konecranes offers solutions for waste incineration plants, biomass plants, composting plants and specialized plants.

Service: Constant product development

Konecranes invests substantially in research and development with the aim of offering customers the best possible service: inspections, preventive maintenance programs, modernization and much more.

The new RailQ service is a preventive maintenance service whereby the rails of electric overhead travelling cranes are measured in order to discover damage to rails and variations in rail alignment before they disrupt production.

TRUVIEW is a data monitoring service that provides a true view of the crane’s safety and maintenance needs. The crane usage data is sent from the crane to the remote center through an internet connection. At the remote center the data is analyzed and built to a report which focuses on safety, maintenance optimization and hoist lifecycle assessment. The report is a valuable maintenance aid, minimizing downtime and identifying potential safety risks such as frequent overloads and emergency stops.

The RopeQ service improves the operating safety of process cranes. In contrast to standard visual inspection, RopeQ inspection checks both the exterior and the interior of the ropes (consisting of up to 400 separate wires) for evidence of wear. RopeQ Inspections will improve the safe use of the wire rope during its installed life
