KCI Konecranes Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes continue to attract new customers around the globe. KCI Konecranes has recently received its first order from Romania and the Dominican Republic and has made further advances on the US West Coast. In total, 14 new RTGs have been ordered for these customers (recorded as orders in Q305). The cranes will be delivered in May-July 2006.
DP World, one of the world's leading container terminal operators, has ordered five RTGs to Constantza South Container Terminal, Romania and four RTGs to the new green field Multimodal Caucedo terminal in the Dominican Republic, Zona Franca.
In 2003 DP World was named as the successful bidder for the operating concession of a brand new container terminal in the Port of Constantza in Romania. The terminal is the Black Sea's largest and DP World is planning to double the terminal's capacity to 900,000 TEU ahead of demand. The new 16-wheel RTGs have a lifting capacity of 40 tons and are capable of stacking containers one-over-five high and six plus truck lane wide.
Caucedo Terminal will be developed to become the primary facility for container shipping to and from the Dominican Republic. The new 8-wheel all-electric RTGs have a lifting capacity of 40 tons with a twin-lift possibility and are capable of stacking containers one-over-five high and six plus truck lane wide.
P&O Nedloyd, a leader in global shipping and international logistics, has ordered five 16-wheel all-electric RTGs for the new Los Angeles Container Terminal (LACT). LACT is a project of the P&O Nedlloyd Company. Under a five-year lease agreement with the Port of Los Angeles, LACT will operate the new terminal with operations designed to minimize environmental impacts while efficiently moving freight.
Commenting on the orders, Tuomas Saastamoinen, Sales Manager, RTGs says: “We have worked hard to gain further footholds in new markets. The technically superior features of the Konecranes RTG combined with our commitment to provide world-class service and technical back-up for the RTG’s has proved to be a winning concept. We are also very grateful for the positive testimonials of our customers in helping us breaking into new markets.”
Technical features of KCI Konecranes RTGs
The RTGs feature many operational and environmental advantages. They are fully equipped with modern technical features. KCI Konecranes own AC Frequency Control System composes the most reliable drive for the RTGs. All features are electromechanical, with no hydraulics involved. Eliminating the hydraulic systems and utilizing AC drives significantly reduces the maintenance costs and emissions.
Efficient fuel consumption and lower emissions are achieved by utilizing state-of-the art power engine and exhaust gas-handling technology. Sophisticated silencers are used for significantly lower noise levels.
