With our Generation 6 mobile harbor cranes you have a choice of modular drive system. You can select consumption-optimized onboard drives or use existing energy sources for even greater eco-efficiency.
What’s more, you stay flexible in terms of time. Regardless of which drive system you select when purchasing the crane, you can always retrofit or convert it in the future. This is the principle of “freedom of drive, any time!”
Combine performance and sustainability in your port today.
The start to zero emissions. Meet tomorrow's environmental guidelines today!
An investment that will already pay off today.
For our Generation 6 mobile harbor cranes, we offer a modular onboard drive concept that provides a wide range of options in terms of performance and consumption-optimized operation. Depending on the power required for the particular application – container, general cargo or bulk material – diesel generator sets can be combined with ultracaps in an eco-efficient way. The concept is also modular when it comes to retrofitting: more power can be added at any time.
Our modular drive system is based on a single engine type with prime power of 625 kW. This consumption-optimized diesel engine can be equipped with SCR exhaust gas treatment as an option, making it compliant with the latest emission standards EPA Tier 4 final and EU Stage V. The entire powertrain, consisting of diesel engine, generator, radiator, SCR system, etc. is mounted in a container on the side of the chassis that is easy to access.
Hybrid drives have been used successfully with Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Cranes for years. This proven system with ultracaps makes it possible to call up greater power at short notice while reducing fuel consumption.
The ultracap packages each provide an additional 125 kW of power.
They give better control of the diesel generator set (peak shaving) and thus a longer service life.
Our innovative energy management system monitors the crane and ensures the efficient distribution of electrical energy to the main and auxiliary consumers on board. The luffing cylinder, the hoist, the slewing gear and the travel drive are intelligently supplied, and the same is true for the air conditioning, heating and lighting systems. Energy recovered from braking and lowering movements is also distributed to the consumers – and is used to charge the ultracaps.
The modular on-board drive concept offers many options to economically operate our mobile harbor cranes. The diesel-generator sets are fuel consumption-optimized, and when combined with ultracaps in a hybrid drive, the reduction of fuel consumption is even higher.
The modular concept provides an appropriate onboard solution for every particular application. Our energy management system ensures efficient energy distribution and demand-optimized use of the available energy.
We use Li-ion batteries with our all-electric mobile harbor cranes that are field-proven in Konecranes Gottwald AGVs. The battery packs with a total capacity of 250 kW/ 120 Ah are mounted underneath the upper structure in an independent housing. They are equipped with air conditioning or heating, depending on the temperature zone of operation. This ensures reliable operation in both freezing cold and tropical heat.
The battery packs provide enough energy to travel the crane for more than one hour off the mains. This is enough time to move it from one connection point to another, or to bring it to parking position. If needed, the crane can also handle some cargo independently of the mains, with the crane movements (lifting, slewing and luffing) done individually with reduced speed. What’s more, even in the event of a temporary failure of the port network, the crane remains operational for some time.
The battery packs can be charged from any auxiliary power source which provides a minimum of 400 V/ 63 A. This means that operators do not necessarily have to rely on a harbor mains connection point, even early on when the crane is being assembled, or when selecting a parking position. Charging is automatic and fast when the crane is connected to the harbor mains, even while the crane is in operation.
Operating a crane with electricity is generally more economical than operating it with fossil fuels. External energy sources can be used more efficiently with the all-electric drive concept: efficiency increases when operating via the harbor mains. The use of battery packs instead of
onboard diesel generators also helps to reduce maintenance costs.
We have been using electric drive concepts with our Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Cranes for decades. We know how to quickly and easily implement an external power supply. Generation 6 cranes are equipped with a rotary lead-through from the chassis to the superstructure, making it easy to retrofit an external power supply at any time.
Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Cranes can be adapted to work with different voltages. This gives great flexibility in the use of existing power sources, according to the crane model and the application. The ultracaps give additional energy boosts during peak handling.
For off-grid operation, our modular onboard drive concept (LINK) offers the appropriate energy supply for all applications requiring high performance. If the terminal has good grid connections, it is possible to reduce the onboard drive to just one diesel engine or use our unique battery drive (LINK).
Our innovative energy management system monitors the crane and ensures the efficient distribution of electrical energy to the main and auxiliary consumers on board. The luffing cylinder, the hoist, the slewing gear and the travel drive are intelligently supplied, and the same is true for the air conditioning, heating or lighting systems. Energy recovered from braking and lowering movements is distributed via the energy management system as well, e.g. for charging the ultracaps. Surplus energy can be fed back to the harbor mains.
Eco-efficient operation with electricity also increases the overall economic efficiency of the cranes. Using ultracaps significantly reduces fuel consumption. The all-electric drive concept allows external energy sources to be used even more efficiently. The energy management system ensures efficient energy distribution and demand-optimized use of the available energy, while feeding energy back to the harbor mains.
• Reduce local exhaust emissions to zero by operating via the port network
• Significantly reduce noise in cargo handling operation by using power from the harbor mains
• Get flexibility in choosing an onboard drive system that can be eco-efficient during unplugged operation
