From a thesis worker to full-time employee

At Konecranes, many of our master’s thesis workers end up staying for a long-term career at our company. In this story, we discuss the professional journey of Anni, who has developed her passion for sustainability through our company’s vast opportunities.

Early days at Konecranes

Anni started working at our company around three and a half years ago in a Trainee position. Later, she continued her work at Konecranes from a different perspective; she based her master’s thesis work on the company’s operational context.

Due to Anni’s valuable insight into Konecranes’ sustainability practices, she was quickly offered a new title as a Sustainability Specialist. Today, Anni works as a Sustainability Manager in Procurement, proving how Konecranes is committed to fostering internal talent.

“My managers and colleagues at Konecranes have supported me throughout my journey here and trusted me with these important tasks. They have greatly contributed to my career development,” Anni comments.

Anni’s role entails a lot of responsibility, since she works with our company’s supply chain sustainability-related themes – this includes supplier sustainability audits, enforcement of the Supplier Code of Conduct, development of new initiatives, as well as contribution in responding to new regulatory developments in social sustainability.

An environment for development

During her time at Konecranes, Anni has appreciated our company’s level of trust and support for all our employees. Through extensive feedback and development discussions, Konecranes has fostered a space where even those at the beginning of their careers – including Anni – can succeed with confidence.

“I feel as though our company has a low level of hierarchy, which is why I can always ask people for help if I need it.”

In addition to her fascinating work tasks, Anni truly adores her amazing colleagues who excel in their craft. In her words, it’s our people that make her professional journey worthwhile, helping her approach every challenge with passion and enthusiasm.

Life in a remote place

Outside of her work tasks and professional responsibilities, Anni finds solace and peace through her interesting personal heritage. Her love for nature is significant, since she has lived most of her life in the serene settings of a Finnish island located in Eastern Finland.

“Growing up in a place that is so close to nature has helped me develop my passion and interest for sustainability. I simply wish to do my contribution for the world through my work.”

When she was younger, she considered her home to be remote and distant from everything else but has now grown to cherish it as a haven for recharging her batteries. Hence, she has grown to appreciate her roots even more today.

“You will matter”

These are the three words Anni uses to describe Konecranes’ work culture. It’s a simple yet powerful statement reflecting our company’s ethic of fairness, diversity, and engagement. According to Anni, it’s also an environment that treats everyone respectfully, realizing all our employees’ potential to innovate and thrive.

Moreover, Anni believes that our company’s multinational landscape has helped her understand real-world sustainability challenges from an entirely new perspective. As can be seen from her career development, this skill is not only a tool, but also a springboard for enhancing her professional experiences here at Konecranes.

“I have been able to cooperate with different people globally and develop my skills surrounding internationality. That’s something I really appreciate about Konecranes.”
